Scott’s Strawberry & Tomato Farms, Inc. is truly a family business. Father Wayne Scott, a former Unicoi County High School agricultural teacher with degrees from ETSU and UT, son Steve, with a degree in horticulture from Virginia Tech, and son David, with an agriculture degree from the University of Tennessee all seem to have farming in the blood. Known particularly for their sweet and tasty strawberries, Scott’s Farms is one of the region’s largest and most successful agricultural operations, also producing and successfully marketing a variety of tomatoes, shipping some 500,000 boxes annually under the brand names Mountain Valley Tomatoes, Tennessee Hills Tomatoes, and Beauty Spot Tomatoes to such buyers as the regionally known Food City grocery chain and corporate fast food chains Pizza Hut, McDonald’s and Hardee’s. Scott’s Strawberry & Tomato Farms, Inc. also produces green beans, corn and squash for the domestic market and is also one of the key sponsors of the Town of Unicoi’s annual Strawberry Festival in May.
